Get found – on Google and in AI answers
The checklist for your website: what search engines and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity need in order to find, understand and recommend your business.
Tick offGo through it point by point. Whatever is already right gets a tick.
Gaps firstStart with section 1 – without the technical basics, the rest has little effect.
RepeatCheck once a quarter. Search and AI change quickly.
1
Technical · the foundation
01
Google knows your pages. Search Google for site:yourdomain.com. If important pages are missing, nobody else will find them either.
02
Fast on mobile. In PageSpeed Insights the Core Web Vitals are green; the largest content element appears within 2.5 seconds.
03
Encrypted everywhere. Every page runs on https, and the browser shows no warning.
04
Its own title and description for every page. Around 50 to 60 characters that say what this particular page is about.
05
Nobody is locked out. robots.txt and “noindex” don’t block anything by mistake – including the crawlers of AI search (e.g. OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT, PerplexityBot).
06
Sitemap submitted. It is listed in Google Search Console and reports no errors.
2
Content · answers, not empty phrases
07
One page per service. “Bathroom renovation in Leeds” needs a page of its own – not a paragraph under “Services”.
08
The answer comes first. The first two or three sentences answer the question that brought someone to the page.
09
Specific, not vague. Figures, price ranges, timescales, process. “Highest quality” says nothing.
10
Clear structure. One main heading per page, with meaningful subheadings below it.
11
A recognisable author. Expert articles show a name, qualifications and the date of the last update.
12
Common questions answered. What customers ask on the phone belongs on the website.
